WindowServer — a background process that manages how windows are drawn and redrawn on the screen.

How to check the amount of resources WindowServer is using:

Go to the Utilities folder.
Launch Activity Monitor.
Click the CPU column. See the resource-consuming processes.

4 REASONS WHY WindowServer might be using way too many resources:

#1. Using more than one display.
#2. Hanging and misbehaving apps.
#3. Having lots of icons on your Desktop.
#4. Visual effects

How to speed your Mac up quickly: Get rid of junk files!

The easiest way to eliminate junk files is to use CleanMyMac X’s System Junk module. It scans your Mac for junk and removes it in one click (simply press the Clean button.)

How to reduce the resources WindowsServer uses

Close windows you don’t need.

Turn off the visual effects. Here’s how to do that:
Apple menu - Settings - Accessibility - Display.
Toggle Reduce Transparency to on. You could also turn on Reduce Motion, which will cut some of the animation effects in macOS.

Reduce desktops and full-screen apps. Here’s how:
Swipe up over the trackpad with three fingers or click the Mission Control button.
Hover the mouse pointer over an empty desktop.
Click the ‘x’ in the top left corner.

Update macOS and apps.
To update macOS: Apple menu - System Settings - General - Software Update. Follow the instructions to install it.
To update apps downloaded from the App Store: launch the App Store app, click on Updates, then click Update All.
To update apps downloaded from their developer’s website: launch the app, click on the app name in the menu bar, and choose Check for Updates.

Restart your Mac.
