The School of Art and Design at SIU Carbondale offers undergraduate degrees with specializations in Communication Design and Industrial Design, and a graduate degree concentration in Design.
The Design Program at SIU Carbondale explores the professional applications of design process, theory, tools, and technology. The program provides students with opportunities to work collaboratively with design faculty, fellow design students, and corporate clients on 2D and 3D design projects in conjunction with the Design Program’s Design Research Studio (DRS).
The 26,000 sq./ft. Pulliam Design Wing, renovated in 2014, is home to studios, workshops, classrooms, a design gallery, the S.A.M. Lab, and the Design Research Studio (DRS).
The DRS provides opportunities for faculty and students to assist client partners in achieving defined business objectives while advancing new collaborative learning models.
The Subtractive and Additive Maker Laboratory Lab (S.A.M. Lab) provides access to three 3D printers, a laser cutter, 3D scanning, a vinyl cutter, Arduino materials, and a bench top 3D carving machine.
The Design Gallery is a 600 sq./ft. professionally lit gallery space available for use by both the design area, and the rest
of the School of Art and Design.
