1 October Giga Texas Update video, the start of the third month of construction! In this video, we discuss the projected schedule of "indicators" and timelines to see how they are doing to meet the "dry-in" target of 30 Dec (as a reminder, Dry-in means that some portions of the structures can begin interior construction as they will be shielded from rain and the elements). So far, it looks like they are slightly ahead of this very aggressive schedule, so that is looking pretty good as well. In addition, we discuss additional detailed information about the resent land purchase to include the 9 parcels of land that were purchased to make the entire 381-acre addition.
Excavations in the south of the foundations are beginning to show the distinct outlines of both casting and stamping machine deep pits where heavy duty footers are being constructed to handle the massive weight. This may also indicate that this part of the factory will be dedicated to building model 3 and Y. Additionally, many more footers for pillars and supports have been excavated, fitted with rebar and then filled with concrete, accelerating these efforts around the south of the foundation.
The northwest "pond" area is now only about 8 feet lower than it needs to be to extend the foundation to the full length and the hills nearby continue to be harvested for fill dirt and to level out the area. Speaking of leveling the area, it is becoming apparent that the large ground clearing areas, including those around the foundation seem to have a common grade that is about 15 feet below the "natural" grade, if you will. This means that currently Harold Green road (if you want to call that the natural land elevation" is about 15 feet higher than all of the areas they have been clearing and preparing. The old abandoned plant is now about 15 feet higher than the excavations just north and south of it. So, it would appear the entire area will eventually be at this level and when Harold Green is rerouted, it too will be at a lower elevation. The only area that looks to be left at the original elevation is the easement with the powerlines
The mobile batch plant (actually two of them) are now about 90% complete which means concrete production is just about ready to begin. This timing is obviously perfect as the need for concrete is about to begin. Later in the day, the first Keystone cement pump truck arrived and promptly began placing concrete into footers at the south foundation area.
The far east side clearing work continues with a industrial mulching machine getting rid of numerous trees that have been dug up. The near east side by the powerline towers is almost completely flat now and looks like it may become a staging area for the next part of Giga Texas construction efforts.
Work continues in many other parts of the construction site, so progress is being made in leaps and bounds everywhere one looks. Texas DOT looks to be building an offramp and/or turnaround at the south bridge and possibly creating a frontage road on the west between the foundation and SH-130. Finally, we fly farther north into the new land area to get a better view.
