Wichita is one of the most dangerous cities in Kansas. It has an estimated population of 366,091 and is the largest city in the state. It first became a city in 1870 and is home to several famous people and things, including the Wichita Art Museum, Intrust Bank Arena, and McConnell Air Force Base.
Ranking at the top in crime, Wichita has the highest violent crime rate of the five cities. It also has the second-largest property crime rate. Wichita had over 100,000 burglaries in 2021, a rate of nearly one for every three residents. In addition, Wichita had the highest rate of package theft in the state with over 1,000 reported incidents.
Wichita also struggles with gun violence. In 2021, there were over 190 homicides and more than 1,000 aggravated assaults with a firearm. The city's safety ranking in 2021 was 4th out of 5.
2. Topeka, KS
Topeka is the second most dangerous city in Kansas. It has an estimated population of 127,473 and is also
the capital city of the state. It first became a city in 1854 and is home to several famous people and things, including the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site and the Kansas State Fair.
Topeka is ranked second in crime, with the highest rate of violent crimes and the second-largest property crime rate. In 2021, there were over 1,500 burglaries in Topeka, a rate of nearly two for every three residents. Besides, Topeka had over 500 package thefts in 2021, a rate of nearly one for every two residents.

3. Junction City, KS
Junction City is the third most dangerous city in Kansas with an estimated population of about 25,657 residents. It first became a city in 1854 and is home to Fort Riley Military Base.
Junction City is ranked third in crime. It has a violent crime rate of nearly twice the state average and a property crime rate that is about 50% higher than the state average. In 2021 there were over 260 burglaries in Junction City, a rate of just over one for every ten residents. In addition, there were nearly 100 package thefts, a rate of nearly four for every ten residents.

4. Arkansas City, KS
Arkansas City is the fourth most dangerous city in Kansas. It has an estimated population of 12,915 and first became a city in 1860. It is home to an Air Force base and many famous people and things, including the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center and the Chisholm Trail Mural.
Arkansas City has a violent crime rate that is about 50% higher than the state average; it also has a property crime rate that is nearly 30% higher than the state average. In 2021 there were over 130 burglaries in Arkansas City, a rate of just over one for every ten residents. There were also nearly 40 package thefts, which is a rate of just under three for every ten residents.
