How can I avoid getting hooked on a swordtail? And is this sea swordsman dangerous to humans? Using the tip of its upper jaw, swordfish pierce their victims, breaking shells and, if possible, showing fishermen who's boss. Swordtails can reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour, and at that speed, they can easily pierce metal several centimeters thick. This fish has a feisty nature. For example, sensing a potential threat from a whale, it will impale the giant fish purely for fun, without any gastronomic interest. However, humans are not prey for swordtails. And the only danger is accidentally puncturing the boat and smashing the fisherman on it.
