An unusual solution to the problem of an aging population is gaining popularity in South Korea — the Hyodol robot doll with artificial intelligence. This is not just a toy: the device can conduct a dialogue, remind you to take medication, monitor your health, and call for help in a critical situation.

Today, there are already more than 12,000 such robots in the country, and the authorities consider them a real salvation against the backdrop of a shortage of caregivers and a rapid increase in the number of elderly people. Hyodol asks its owner every day how he feels, records the answers, and is even able to detect alarming signals such as prolonged inactivity.

However, along with the delight, there are also concerns: possible leaks of personal data, excessive attachment of elderly people to robots, and ethical issues of using technology in such a personal area.

Hyodol is more than a gadget. It is a technological embodiment of the traditional Korean ethic of caring for the elderly. But are we ready to trust machines with the most valuable thing — human feelings?
