Remember the MONTANA watch? So, someone brought me a watch from the past – a CASIO A158w. A rarity, so to speak.
Currently, the Casio A158W is a Casual or Standard series watch. In some catalogs, it's called a Retro series.
Although, initially, the F and W series were Sport (W – Water Sport), A and B – Casual, and F – Casual since 1989.
Simply put, these are everyday wear watches.
The A1xx series, specifically the A158W, began in 1983 with the A151-1 and A160-1 models (415 modules). 1 and 2 indicate 1984. (The year of the rediscovery on the website lags one year behind the catalogs.)
Next, the 1984 catalog lists the A152-1 (module 415). In 1988 (or 1989), the A155W-1 (module 587) and A156W-1 (module 596) were released.
The A155W is the predecessor of the A158W, but its case design was partially borrowed from the 1988 W-39. The A158W is presumably released in 1991, like its other "colleagues" – the F-91 and A168.
The A and B series cases were never made of stainless steel. Only chrome-plated plastic (or alloy – not verified). Yes, the shiny finish isn't paint, as some people claim – it's chrome plating.
Since around 2010, a modification of the A158W has been produced exclusively for Europe – the A158WEA-1EF.
And the regular "colored" A158WA-1 is only available in the US.
