Not only is Le Chateau de Chenonceau one of the most magnificent palaces in France’s Louire Valley, it also has one of the most fascinating histories. It is known as the Ladies’ Chateau for the many women who owned, renovated and left their mark on it over its 500 year history. The elegant property, which spans the River Cher, has been at the center of a rivalry between the French King’s mistress and his wife, and at the center of enlightenment philosophy. It narrowly escaped destruction during the French revolution and was used as a hospital during WWI and a base for the French resistance in WWII. Let’s visit the glamorous and tranquil Chateau de Chenonceau and explore it’s intriguing history.
