The GTA VI hype train is in full swing, which means a full replay of the entire Grand Theft Auto franchise between now and November... If you're a sicko. Like myself.
Okay at the VERY least, a Vice City replay is an absolute MUST for obvious reasons. Or maybe you're even playing it for the very first time?
There's an obvious question that is asked: What's the best way to play GTA Vice City here in 2026? Is there a remake? Emulation? What about that Definitive Edition I see on my PS5? You'd think such a popular, beloved classic game would have a simple answer to that question... but NO!
To answer the question properly, I've decided to take a look back at every version of Vice City that has ever been released. We'll figure out the pros and cons of each version, platform by platform, console by console, and ultimately, decide on which is best to play here in 2026! And yes... I have a lot to say about that VC Definitive Edition. We'll go DEEP into that one.
While the main focus of the video is answering that question in the title, we'll also explore the hype for the game around its launch, the importance of its release & success for Grand Theft Auto as a franchise, and, well... basically this ended up being my own little review and retrospective for a game I love so much. The original PS2 version had a very distinct art style: the red hot sun of Vice City and its trippy, blurry trails effect does a phenomenal job selling the player on the nostalgic 1980s setting. We'll look at WHY exactly the game is so great... and why it's so important that those original PS2 elements are still carried forward in each successive version of the game. To lose any of them would mean a lesser version of Vice City! Especially the visual effects. But ESPECIALLY the music.
After breaking down each official release of the game, we'll then get into the wonderful world of mods! With the power of the PC in the modern day, can we capture the true, authentic PS2 Vice City experience that way? Watch to find out!
