"Machine" refers more to the structure of a device designed to do some mechanical work. Its motion could be called locomotion.
An organism is not designed, but is self-created by way of co-emergence with its environment over billions of years. Its motion might best be termed telemotion.
Machines take on only the purposes of their designers, while organisms devise their own.
