Programming can be a prison!
To develop and manage the creation and release of a software project requires a lot more than just programming. And many companies want to stick you in a box and say "we just want you to write code". But some of the biggest value I've gotten out of my career was when I said NO to those constraints and started to broaden my view to understand other things about software engineering.
