It's time to explore the Krasnaya Polyana trails, I thought.
So I hiked up Polikarya (Shtany) Waterfall, descending from a height of 960 meters.
The waterfall is considered the highest in the Sochi region, with a drop of 70 meters. The spectacle of the water rushing down from above is mesmerizing.
Polikarya is fed by precipitation and melted snow from the Aibga Ridge. Furthermore, a snowfield remains near the waterfall until mid-summer. Therefore, I recommend bringing a warm jacket and raincoat (the weather can change quickly).
From Adler, I got there by bus #105 to Krasnaya Polyana and the stop "Rosa Khutor Railway Station." Then take a Yandex.Taxi to 6 Sozvezdiy Street (elevation 960 m) for 400 rubles. From there, I walked to the waterfall at 1,450 m, a distance of about 4 km. The hike is easy without a ski lift. It's impossible to get lost. It took me 1.5 hours to get there.
I took the ski lift down from 1,370 m to 960 m for free. From there, I decided to walk to the "Rosa Khutor Railway Station" bus stop instead of taking a taxi. I spent a lot of time on winding roads and got completely drenched in the warm rain. But it was fun.
If you don't mind spending money on the cable car, you can take the lift directly from the "Gornaya Karusel" bus stop and ascend to an altitude of 1,370 meters (there's still an 800-meter walk to the waterfall).
An adult ticket costs 1,200 rubles. This includes the ascent and descent.
