S/PDIF input is digital input, therefore it’s less susceptible to interference, featuring high audio quality. Some customers want to achieve S/PDIF input for their audio systems in various applications as home theater, car audio, etc. In this video, we will show you how to add COAX / TOSLINK input to your audio amplifier board. The board we employ is WONDOM WM8804 S/PDIF and I2S signal transceiver. It supports signal conversion between S/PDIF and I2S. That means, you can convert S/PDIF to I2S, or I2S to S/PDIF conveniently. The audio amplifier board we use is JAB5, which supports I2S input. Therefore, the signal flow is as follows: We input signal through TOSLINK. Then signal goes through WM8804 conversion board, where TOSLINK signal is converted to I2S signal. I2S signal would be fed to JAB5 for amplification. Since JAB5 supports 4.0 / 2.1 / 2.0 output mode, the whole system is full of flexibility and expandability.
