This is the only way you should be doing barbell hip thrusts. First step, setting the right bench height. For most people a standard bench height is too high so I recommend either using a decline bench or setting up a stepper so that it sits right under your shoulder blades. Then, roll the bar over your hips until the barbell rests in the crease of your hips. Take a slightly wider than shoulder width stance, look straight ahead and flex your glutes to get the weight up. Focus on fully extending the hips until you can’t move up any further. At the top, our shins should be vertical, glutes and abs contracted with chin and ribcage tucked down. As we descent, we lower our body as one piece and finish the movement at the first point of contact with the floor.
