SIP stands for self-supporting insulated wire.

This type of wire is used for laying main overhead power lines (OVL) and their branches. For example, from an overhead power line to a country house or cottage.

SIP is used in AC networks with voltages from 0.6 to 35 kV at temperatures from -60 to +50°C. The service life of the wires is at least 40 years.

These wires cannot be laid underground, as their insulation is not suitable for such operating conditions.
