Marathi explaination: 00:00 - 05:11
English explaination: 05:12 - 11:35

Electrolysis :- It is defines as the process of chemical decomposition of an electrolytes by passing of electric current through aq. solution or fused mass of an electrolytes is called electrolysis.
*Electrolytic or voltaic cell:- It is an apparatus of convenient shape , size and material (glass or steel ) in which the electrolysis is carried out by passing electric current are called electrolytic vessel or electrolytic cell.i.e. The device in which the electrical energy is converted into chemical energy are called electrolytic cell.
3) Battery :- The electrical apparatus in which the chemical energy converted into electrical energy are called battery.

4) Electrodes :- The metallic or non-metallic rod , plates or foil which have ability to conduct electric current and they immersed in electrolyte are called electrodes.
a) Active electrode:- The electrodes which acts as electrons carriers and also take part in chemical reaction are called active electrodes.
ex. copper plates, zinc plates , silver rod etc.
b) Inert electrodes :- The electrodes which simply acts as electron carriers are known as inert electrodes. ex. platinum ,graphite rod etc.
5) Anode (+ve electrode) :- The electrode which is connected to the positive pole of the battery is called anode or positive electrode.
When an electric current is passing there is a flow of electrons from the anode to the positive pole of battery .
6) Cathode (-Ve electrode ) :- The electrodes which is connected to the negative pole of the battery is called cathode or negative electrode.
When an electric current is passing there is a flow of electrons from negative pole of battery to the cathode,.
Homework :-
Q1) Distinguish between anode and cathode
Q.2) Define :- a) Electrolysis b) Battery c) Active electrode d) electrolytic cell
Q.3) Multiple choice questions :-
i) .......... is an example of inert electrode.
a) Cu b) Pt c) Ag d) An
ii) The positive terminal of battery connected to electrode are called......
a)Cathode b) null c) anode d) cathode and anode
iii) Negative pole of battery generally denoted by ........colour.
a)red b) blue c)black d)blue or black
