Twitch Tips Episode 23: Choosing a Streaming Software
I want to stream but I am not sure if I should use Streamlabs OBS or OBS Studio
Both are great but they each have their pros and cons!
What are the pros of OBS Studio?
OBS Studio is free, which is the first pro.
That’s great!
It also has low CPU usage, so it doesn’t strain your processor as much as other softwares.
I like the sound of that! What other pros are there?
It is open source code so that adds a few benefits, like software bugs and glitches get resolved quickly because anyone can review the code whenever and there are over 120 plugins that are totally customizable.
What are the cons of OBS Studio?
OBS Studio is more complex to learn as a beginner because of all the customization tools.
Hmm are there any other cons?
Because OBS Studio is open source, there isn’t a great organization and centralized support system if you need help.
Good to know! Any other cons?
OBS Studio only allows you to stream to one destination at a time, meaning you cannot stream to multiple platforms at once from the software.
What are the pros of Streamlabs OBS?
Streamlabs OBS is very user friendly and intuitive, which makes it perfect for beginners to learn.
That is a great feature! Any other pros?
It has multi-streaming platform capabilities, allowing you to stream to Twitch and another platform at the same time.
Oh that is cool! So, what are the cons of Streamlabs OBS?
It has a higher CPU usage, so it adds strain to your processor more than other softwares, which can decrease your computer’s performance.
That is good to know! Any other cons?
Also, many of the best features Streamlabs OBS offers, require you to pay for the software subscription.
Thank you so much for your help!
