One of the things that may be challenging for new signing agents to understand is that companies are under no obligation to pay you a "fair" or "minimum" wage for your services. It is up to YOU to calculate the cost involved in completing an assignment and then determine if the amount that is being paid will make you an acceptable profit. If it doesn't, then it is OK for you to counteroffer or decline the assignment.

Now, of course there are always exceptions. For example, I will accept assignments that don't make my usual amount of profit IF it is from a company that I work with frequently that pays me well and they need a favor on a particular assignment. Since this is YOUR business, you get to decide what exceptions you are willing to make to (hopefully) build business connections that will pay off in the future!
