Using nature for defense: The ancient city of Blaundus
Hello.
I visited the ancient city of Blaundus on my motorcycle tour.
This ancient city, a veritable fortress, was founded by the soldiers of Alexander the Great. The road leads only to this site, and there was no one else there. The toll booth was closed, but the gate was open, so I entered and explored.
Blaundus is a Hellenistic-era settlement built on a natural plateau surrounded by deep valleys on the border of Uşak and Manisa. Founded by the Blaundians of Macedonian origin in the 3rd century BC, the city became one of the region's military and administrative centers during the Roman period. The city's most striking features are its strategic location between two large valleys, its rock-cut tombs, temple platforms, and the impressive city gates that still stand.
