From Stumbling Blocks to Stepping Stones for Success by Cheryl Fernando at IAM3.0
Cheryl is in her second year of fellowship under Teach for Malaysia. Currently, she is teaching English for Form 1, 2 and 4 at SMK Pinang Tunggal, Sungai Petani, Kedah. She graduated with a degree in Mass Communication from Taylor’s University College and a Master in Management from Open University Malaysia. While working as a PR consultant, Cheryl also tutored refugee children in Sentul and worked with the underprivileged Indian community in Puchong. After four years in public relations, Cheryl decided to become a teacher and worked in an International school for a year before joining Teach for Malaysia with the aim to use the expertise gained at the international school to help the local communities. She firmly believes that working with the kids at Pinang Tunggal will forever shape who she is today and in the future.
