Full Disclosure: I occasionally take on freelance work at Sonicware on an hourly rate producing synth & sample sound design, beta testing, checking English text, video manuals etc. This video wasn't paid for directly but as a result of my work with Sonicware it is marked as Paid Promotion
I used this Jamuary as a chance to experiment and find some samples that I can use in a soundtrack. So I've connected the Soma Ether which can turn radio waves and electrical interference into audio. Firstly I found an energy saving bulb with a nice shape-able pulse sound and my keyboard makes an interesting cloud of harmonics which turned out to be more useful than I first thought, it's used here as a drone. These were tuned using the "Tuner - Pitched" app on my phone.
To add another element I pitched down a drum break until it just became a series of static like clicks.
There is a whole world of interesting noises to be found using the Soma and I knew it would be an interesting sample source. The Lofi-12 has made it nice and easy to test different things really quickly to see if they are useful.
The drum break crackle plays back from track 4, tracks 2 and 3 contain the same sample of the gaming keyboard but hard panned and detuned, track 1 contains the bulb sample. I used the OK button sustain function on the Livens to program in a spread chord and then play a melody over the top while tweaking an isolation filter effect for expression
