Let's say we want to calculate the difference between this year's sales and last year's sales using Power BI. There are a few steps we need to follow.
The first step is to decide what the first measure we'll create will be. For this calculation, we first need to calculate total sales.
Let's make a note here. You can write quite complex time intelligence formulas, but my advice is to always start simple and work your way through step-by-step. Start with simple measures, as we did here, and then start using time intelligence formulas.
Now, next, we need to calculate last year's total sales. The formula we'll write will go to last year's date, look at the previous year's sales corresponding to that date, and calculate last year's sales.
In this video, we'll learn by applying the SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR function, one of my most frequently used time intelligence formulas.
