This is a question many people consider at the start of their journey. With all the hoopla in the industry, how do you know what makes the most sense for your individual needs?
To try and simplify the conversation, I've broken it down into two simple categories. Foam vs. Spring mattresses. Let's dive in.
Foam mattresses have been very popular over the last few decades with many all foam products on the market. Foam mattresses are nice for manufacturers because they are easy to roll & compress making it easy to ship and save on shipping costs. There are a multitude of foam options, densities, grades, qualities, etc. Generally speaking, foam can be broken down into polyurethane, memory foam, and latex foam. Foam mattresses provide the following to the consumer.
✅ Affordability
✅ Pressure Point Relief
✅ No to low motion transfer
Spring mattresses are more of a "traditional" mattress and will likely use a spring unit for the support and foam in the transition & comfort layer of the product. There are various types of spring units ➡️ bonnell, offset coil, continuous coil, pocketed coil, micro-coil. Each coil can come in various gauges in order to make the mattress "feel" different. With the proper spring unit, you can have a very breathe-able and comfortable mattress that might be considered a touch more eco-friendly than your typical all foam mattress. Spring mattresses can provide the following.
✅ Breathability
✅ Traditional feel
✅ Enhanced durability
✅ Quick response
Buying the right mattress can be extremely challenging when you go into the purchase without any knowledge of the internal components. It's really critical to do your research to figure out what makes the most sense for your individual needs.
