Junction Field-Effect Transistors (JFETs) and Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) are both types of transistors but operate differently and have distinct characteristics. Here are the key differences between JFETs and BJTs:


JFET (Field-Effect Transistor):

JFETs are field-effect transistors where current flow is controlled by an electric field applied across the semiconductor material. JFETs have three terminals: source, gate, and drain. The gate-to-source voltage controls the width of the conducting channel between the source and drain. They operate by varying the width of the channel, thereby controlling the current flow from source to drain. JFETs can be either N-channel or P-channel types.

BJT (Bipolar Junction Transistor):

BJTs are bipolar transistors where current flow is controlled by the injection of minority carriers (electrons or holes) across the transistor junctions. BJTs consist of three layers of semiconductor material: emitter, base, and collector. The base-emitter junction controls the flow of current between the collector and emitter terminals. They operate by controlling the current flow between the collector and emitter through the base-emitter junction. BJTs can be either NPN (N-type layer between P-type layers) or PNP (P-type layer between N-type layers) types.
