I recently got a chance to try out Nikon's new ZR model paired with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens. I shot some casual videos and photos handheld. The videos were filmed at 50fps and slowed down by 50% during editing. I didn’t use a stabilizer while shooting, so the footage has some shakiness, but it looks fairly decent after slowing down. Additionally, the exposure wasn’t quite right, so I adjusted it in DaVinci Resolve during post-processing.
Since I’m more of a Sony user, I’m not very familiar with using Nikon cameras and lenses, which made this experience less than perfect. For example, the ZR’s autofocus logic and dynamic range are areas I still struggle to master. But I can feel the camera has great potential. If I get the chance to test it more formally, I’ll pair it with a higher-end set of lenses and filters, along with a stabilizer. The salesperson told me it’s been discounted again recently, and I’m really on the fence about whether to buy it.
