🇪🇺 EU's Radio Equipment Directive Update
As of August 1, 2024, the European Union had big plans for implementing stringent cybersecurity requirements as part of the Radio Equipment Directive. However, this has been pushed back by one year, now set to take effect on August 1, 2025. These requirements are a crucial element of the CE Marking framework.
The Future of Cybersecurity in the EU
The European Union is gearing up for the introduction of the Cyber Resilience Act, which could potentially alter the landscape of cybersecurity regulations. This act may lead to the repeal of some cybersecurity requirements within the Radio Equipment Directive.
🇬🇧 Across the English Channel to the UK
Across the English Channel, the United Kingdom is also taking steps to bolster its cybersecurity measures. The Product Security Telecommunications Infrastructure Act (PSTI) is on the horizon, set to come into force on April 29, 2024. This act is akin to the EU's Cyber Resilience Act but stands apart from both CE Marking and UKCA Marking. It will apply to a wide range of IT and telecommunications equipment within its scope.
What to Expect
The PSTI will be loosely based on the EN 303645 standard, making it a significant cybersecurity requirement. While it won't be part of UKCA marking, compliance will be a legal necessity. The clock is ticking, so prepare your IT telecommunications equipment accordingly.
