Here’s how to use the grid method for making realistic paintings. It’s pretty easy actually; just follow the steps! (And I’m not just saying that because I’m an “artist.”)
It’s actually more accurate than tracing is, to me, because the thickness of your paper has nothing to do with how clearly you can see your picture.
I go through the following topics:
1. How to setup the grid
2. How to draw within the grid
3. Connect the dots method
4. Drawing by sight
4. Tracing
5. Cartoony lines
6. Working with dark paint
7. Erasing
I show you exactly how I achieved this portrait drawing for watercolor, making the painting stage much easier. This drawing tutorial demonstrates a simple method for sketching portraits using grid lines, including how to set up your grid in Procreate. Follow along for a step-by-step drawing guide to improve your portrait creations! 😊
Hope you enjoy the video, and hope it can encourage you to paint/draw a realistic portrait of your own!
In part two, I’ll walk you through the painting process.
