How to Convert Text to Columns in Excel Using the Split Text Excel Formula | TextSplit |
The TextSplit formula allows you to split text across columns or by row (convert text to column). Usually, we use the Text to Column feature in Excel, which is located in the Data menu. This video discusses using a formula. Therefore, the TextSplit formula can also be called a text to column formula in Excel.
Syntax:
=TEXTSPLIT(text;col_delimiter;[row_delimiter];[ignore_empty];[match_mode];[pad_with])
The TEXTSPLIT function syntax has the following arguments:
Text: The text you want to split. Required.
col_delimiter: Text that marks the point where the text spills across columns.
row_delimiter: Text that marks the point where the text spills down rows.
ignore_empty: Specify FALSE to create empty cells when two delimiters are in a row. TRUE, which creates an empty cell.
match_mode: Searches text for a matching separator. By default, a case-sensitive match is completed.
pad_with: The value to redirect the results to. The default is #N/A.
Note: If there is more than one separator, an array constant must be used.
For example, to separate with a comma and a period,
use =TEXTSPLIT(A1,{",","."}).
