The Magnet: Celebrating Five Years
After a decade of serving the senior citizens of downtown Minneapolis, the Skyway Senior Center shut down in 2017, leaving a gap in the community that needed to be filled. Recognizing the importance of creating a space for seniors to come together, the local library and Westminster Presbyterian Church leaders stepped up to the challenge.
In 2018, in collaboration with Central Library, The Magnet Senior Center opened its doors to this community at Westminster. The efforts have proven to be invaluable, providing a much-needed gathering place for fostering a sense of community that is truly special.
Today, The Magnet 55+ continues to serve as a vital community engagement hub, offering health and wellness programs, adult education classes, events and social engagement, and art activities in a welcoming and comfortable setting.
As we celebrate five years of serving the older adult community, we remain deeply grateful and thrilled to continue our mission of promoting growth, movement, creativity, and education for seniors. The Magnet 5+ has proven to be an invaluable resource, offering a much-needed space for seniors to come together and connect with one another.
