Learning how to control your DAW through MIDI is something that can open up new and exciting doors for you and your music.

There are many levels of MIDI control, from automagical pre-mapped controllers designed specifically to work with your DAW, to more advanced and innovative ways like the ones shared in this lesson. Ableton Live is a program that has been built and evolved with the future musician/producer in mind at every turn. Many cool technologies and capabilities have been crammed into every little nook and cranny and it can take years to learn about all of it.

MIDI being such a well-documented and established technical standard, has been explored and exploited in countless ways to unlock more options than most people are even aware of. But you never really know what ways MIDI will impact your work the most until you begin experimenting freely in the pursuit of creative awesomeness. Luckily, Ableton Live is one of the more open and advanced DAWs, in regards to how it handles MIDI in general.

MIDI is the language of modern music and if you can gain a deep understanding of the ins-and-outs of routing and assignments involved there is very little that you cannot accomplish in the studio or on stage. If you are willing to dig deep, as Jor does in this video, then you can target very specific functions and parameters inside of Ableton Live to streamline your workflows, using custom shortcuts and keystrokes to really super-charge your sessions.
