The vertigo effect (aka Dolly-Zoom) is a technique that has been used by cinematographers since the days of Alfred Hitchcock. As you move the camera (dolly) forwards or backwards, you'd also zoom in or out to keep the perspective of the subject about the same. This would then create unique perspective shifts in the background. Now, thanks to 4k drones, we can do it in a totally different way. In this short I give a quick tutorial, but more importantly try to give an overview of the technique.
This is Thing #26 in our 52Things series this year. I hope you are able to try it out. It only takes about an hour from flight to editing it up so should be something you can add to your arsenal pretty quickly.
