The common sole, a flat fish that camouflages itself on sandy bottoms
Scientifically known as Solea solea, the common sole is a flatfish belonging to the soleidae family (order Pleuronectiformes). Among the sole's main curiosities is the fact that at the beginning of its life, it is not a flatfish, but a sardine-shaped fry with one eye on each side.

This flatfish can be found in temperate and freshwater seas. This is a species common in sandy seabeds, where only its eyes are exposed.
Its diet consists of small fish, invertebrates from the seabed where it lives, and crustaceans. It is a hunter who knows how to take full advantage of its characteristics and way of life. Therefore, it blends into its environment, waiting for the current itself to bring it food. This is why sole are often found at river mouths.
