It is the moving story of a dramatic love and, at the same time, a document of epochal art: At the beginning of the 20th century, Berlin-born Gabriele Münter lived and painted with her great love, the Russian Wassily Kandinsky, in Murnau am Staffelsee, Bavaria. This provincial town became the starting point for an artistic breakthrough into modernism, revolutionizing painting and the understanding of art and giving rise to the loosely affiliated artists' movement Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider).
