The Ainulindalë. The Ainulindalë is the creation of the universe. Before there was a world, before there were stars or oceans or even time itself, there was Ilúvatar. Ilúvatar is God. He is the supreme creator of all things. The first beings that Ilúvatar created were the Ainur. The Ainur are divine spirits, celestial entities born from the thought of Ilúvatar himself. Each of them was given a piece of his mind, a fragment of his vision. Ilúvatar then proposed a Great Music. He asked the Ainur to sing together, and through their combined voices, the blueprint of reality would take shape. This song is known as the Ainulindalë.
