ABOUT THE CHAMPIONS’ HUB: It had been created to give training, research and practice on the competition equipment to National Barista Champions. The purpose was to make competition
training more accessible to all participants. The first edition of the Champions’ Hub was in Italy at the Simonelli Group factory on May 8-9. All National Barista Champions were invited to attend.
I had the great opportunity to be a speaker at this great event and to give a lecture about how to organize for success during the last four weeks.
Have a look at the packed program: During the morning of both days speakers (Lauro Fioretti, Sonja Grant, Gwilym Davies, Dale Harris, Ronny Billemon, Rubens Gardelli, Andre Eiermann and Chahan Yeretzian) offered competitors useful tips, suggestions and mistakes to avoid pitfalls during their routine.
There were two sessions each afternoon. The first one was dedicated to “Role playing”. Under the guide of a head judge, competitors played both barista competitor and judge. Playing both roles helped to understand the different points of view and the critical aspects of each role.
The second session was about “Private practice and Coffee Lab Analysis”. Depending on requests each competitor could practice with their own coffee and the official WBC machine. They could also make also some scientific analysis to collect useful information for their future performance. The head judges will not be present to ensure they are not influenced in any way at the WBC.
