If the ABS indicator lights up in your vehicle, a defective ABS sensor could be the cause. In today's video, we show how to replace this small component using a Golf Mk4 as an example.

ATTENTION: The work we perform is for demonstration purposes only and should be performed by a qualified mechanic at a workshop. Improper handling could result in injury and damage to the vehicle.

Steps for replacing an ABS sensor:

1. First, unscrew the wheel to get a clear view of the ABS sensor.

2. Now loosen the retaining screw and remove the old ABS sensor. The parts are often very tight, and it's not uncommon for them to break during disassembly. If you can't pry out the old sensor with a screwdriver, you can also use a hammer and chisel. Just be careful not to damage the cable or the ABS sensor ring. Any residue left in the ring can be removed using a punch through the hole in a wheel bolt.

3. Now thoroughly clean the sensor ring with sandpaper before inserting the new sensor and screwing it back on tightly. The corresponding cable is then plugged in and should audibly click into place.

4. Install the wheel, tighten the wheel bolts to the correct torque, and clear the error log.

5. Tighten the wheel bolts again with a torque wrench after approximately 50 km.
