GROUT - TYPES OF GROUT AND HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE
When you think about decorating your home, do you also think about the best grout for each room or how to grout your floors, wall coverings, and countertops?
Choosing the best type of grout for each situation is crucial for maintaining a good finish. After all, many people complain that grout deteriorates, peels, cracks, gets stained, and shows signs of moisture, but it doesn't have to be that way.
I know that for many people, the best thing would be not to use grout, but this is only possible with polyethylene floors, such as polished cement, liquid porcelain, etc. Floors like porcelain, ceramic, mosaics, and natural stone need grout because it's a plastic element that protects floors and wall coverings from expansion, moisture, dirt, insects, and much more.
Let's go over some DECORATING TIPS to help you:
Generally, we can classify grouts into 3 categories: CEMENTITIOUS GROUT, ACRYLIC GROUT, and EPOXY GROUT. There are others that I will mention in the video, but they are variations of these.
CEMENTITIOUS GROUT is the cheapest and most used of all; however, it tends to be more granular and therefore accumulates more dirt, and is also more porous. However, it has versions with additives that allow it to be used on natural stones, marble and granite, facades, swimming pools, and inside the house, metallic tiles, and even mortar that, when we glue the tile, also serves as grout.
ACRYLIC GROUT is better than the cementitious model; it is more resistant, more waterproof, and smoother, which facilitates cleaning. We can find it ready to apply, or two-component, meaning it needs to be mixed before use. It can be applied in kitchens, bathrooms, and throughout the interior of the house, but it is more expensive than the cementitious model.
EPOXY GROUT is the best of all three, more resistant, smoother and easier to clean, more waterproof, and therefore also the most expensive. The downside of epoxy grout is that you need specialized labor because if you don't use epoxy remover at the right time, it can stain your floor.
Be careful with the type of flooring chosen, as some models are more porous, such as stone and ceramic tiles, while PORCELAIN is more waterproof. We also have some variations of the grouts already listed, such as RESIN GROUT, FLEXIBLE GROUT, and HYBRID GROUT, which is the best because it combines the ease of application of acrylic grout and the resistance of epoxy grout.
We can also waterproof grout; there are sprays for this, or you can even mix powdered water repellent into the grout preparation. But if the grout is already very damaged, the ideal is to use a grout remover and apply new grout.
If it's possible to revitalize old grout, we can paint it with specific grout paints or even use epoxy paint.
Besides CLEANING GROUT and giving you GROUT TIPS, I'll tell you how to choose the grout color. We can use a color very similar to the floor, which makes the decoration cleaner and brings more spaciousness to the decor, or we can use a grout that highlights your floor.

What grout goes with white flooring?
I prefer to use a light gray, as white grout gets dirty much more easily. When using larger tiles, it's also preferable to use rectified porcelain tiles, as the joints are smaller than with solid tiles, resulting in less grout, lower maintenance costs, and less hassle.
