A clear understanding of the factors that influence costs helps in establishing pricing leadership. This video intends to demonstrate to engineering students the mechanics of cost, which, can be changed by simple changes in material and technology used for the construction process. Rates are not one size fits all, but, requires an item by item analysis in the placement condition and often. Hence, the geographic and political location plays a vital role as availability of a particular material, skill to use the material or tools and plant required. Taxation and political sentiments are also other essential factors, as is the desired profit expected by a contractor.
As demonstrated in the previous videos, • How the choice of construction material an... (Influence of construction material on rates) and • How to do Rate Analysis for Earthwork - u... (Considerations when earthwork is done), the practical considerations are discussed. This session adopts a more hands-on approach when compared to the earlier videos relying heavily on practical examples.
The construction industry has seen a spurt of new materials, admixtures, concreting equipment and enabling systems. A visit to a building expo is useful to keep abreast with such development. Many patented systems are available for shuttering, shoring, with emphasis on the finish of concrete and ease in handling.
It is aimed that viewers will be simulated to widen their thought process when they undertake an exercise to analyse rates of construction materials.
In the next video, an idea on how the reuse of a construction enabling system as shuttering influences cost and how the same can be calculated is discussed. You can find link to the same in • Rate Analysis for Concrete Works II – Infl...
This video and the other videos in this series are not a step by step tutorial but aims to empower viewers to think and take decisions. Thanks for watching and do share your comments and feedback in the comments section below.
