There are many things that are suggested for on page SEO optimisation and a lot of them are not relevant today. You can no longer stuff your content with exact keywords or using your keywords are certain number of times and the page. On page optimisation is more about getting the search intent right. Search intent is the reason behind the search query. This has become a really important factor for ranking on Google and the content that you create has to take this into consideration. This means creating the content in a manner that a searcher finds easy to consume, is relevant to the search and this should be supplemented with your proper HTML tags that will help Google identify what the page is about.
To be able to work on this you need to understand the different kinds of such intents. There are four basic kinds of such intents that you can work on. Informational, transactional, comparison and navigational. Informational intent is about how to. For example, how to open a bank account. Transactional is about wanting to buy something, for example, best phone in the thousand pounds. Comparison is about comparing two things. For example, iPhone versus Samsung. Navigational is a query to find or look for a particular website. For example, Amazon. Understanding the intent of the searcher will help you create a web page that is relevant for a particular query. If you are targeting a keyword phrase where the intention of the query is transactional which means the searcher wants to buy something, then you should create the page in such a way that it makes it easier for the searcher to navigate through the products and its information which is relevant for the query. Especially for something like this some of the top results are pages which a list based, meaning something like top 10 phones under £ 1000, with the given information about these products, including specifications and pros and cons. Obviously a website doesn’t have to be a top-10 products site but can make use of the keyword phrases these top searches are using to rank higher.

While building a web page you have to make use of headers. You have the H1 header, which is the main headline of the page, followed by H2, H3 etc. these are structured in terms of importance where H2 is a subheading and H3 can be a paragraph heading. You can use this headers to your advantage by optimising and utilising your primary keywords and your secondary keywords within the headers. again you have to take care that you do not stuff your keywords or keyword phrases, this gives you an additional opportunity to make use of the primary and secondary keywords so make sure that you don’t misuse them. If you do not code and you have somebody else working for you on the webpages do let them know what you intend to do with these headers and how you would like to optimise them with the keywords that you can provide.
The next important thing in the search engine results page is the URL. This is the address of the website/webpage that you see in the results. This is again prime property for on page SEO. Always remember that when you are buying the domain name you try to keep it short and simple and memorable. It is really difficult to get the exact domain name that you might be looking for, but getting a domain name that is unnecessarily complicated is going to hurt your site. If you can try and avoid numbers, hyphens as it can again make it difficult to remember. The next thing you should do is you should try and use the keyword here in the URL of the page. If you do not customise your URL your website throws a really long confusing combination of letters and numbers that don’t really mean anything. This is a waste of a prime site and you can utilise this by putting in your keywords for the website without making it too long but being specific and to the point. You have to remember that people actually use the address, the URL when they are copying this link to share it with someone, or to refer to later. So if you construct this URL in a manner that it tells you exactly what the page is about, it will be easier to use it, save it and share it.
