You can buy an American Express Serve prepaid card online and in retail stores like Walmart, Walgreens and CVS.
In retail stores it will cost you up to $4 and online it is free.
The most basic American Express Serve has a monthly fee of $7 per month, but it can be waived if you have a direct deposit of $500 per month.
How can you add money to the Amex Serve?
You can setup a direct deposit from your employer or you can transfer money from your account at another bank.
The prepaid debit card has direct deposit and money should be available 2 days earlier than in Bank Of America.
Another way is to deposit a paper check using your phone. The feature called Mobile Check Capture.
It has 2 options - no fee if you can wait 10 days for deposit to clear.
Or 1% to 5% fee on fast deposits.
You can also receive money from other users of American Express Serve.
Useful feature of this prepaid card is it’s cash reloads. You can reload your card at the same retail locations where you can buy the card. Such a cash deposit will cost you up to $4 per deposit.
How to withdraw money from the American Express Serve?
Other than spending money, you can withdraw money at MoneyPass ATMs.
MoneyPass is a large network of atms - 37 thousands. I don’t know any of the big banks that have such a large number of atms.
If I had to choose a prepaid card - I would take the prepaid card from American Express.
The thing is that American Express Serve has the same customer support as American Express Credit Cards. That is a big deal.
Other than that - Amex Serve card has perks like Roadside assistance and purchase protection. No other debit card has this level of perks.
