[Skip to 5:50 for the crash] Wanted to try some of the different advanced flight modes, and got it flown into a tree which was unfortunately over concrete. Flipped a few times on the way down and landed upside-down whirring like crazy into the ground.
Result:
Flattened the tops of the props as I frantically did the sequence to turn the rotors off. That was a long few seconds. All four props were scraped up, but none were actually cracked. I could likely fly even with those props, but being safe by switching to the extra set provided. The actual housing and gimbal is completely unscathed, and feel more than just a bit lucky considering. By the way, if you look at around 3:00 - 5:00 in this video, you'll see I am trying out the IOC mode of the aircraft. You can really get some cool shots with this mode, but it is not to be taken lightly. If something starts to go awry, you'll resort to muscle memory, and it will likely go in a direction you do not expect. Use of this mode is for advanced fliers only, and in a wide open space! (Neither applied to my situation.)
This video serves as proof that I am new to the hobby and deserve a bit of reprimand for being overly-confident and not respecting my surroundings and other's personal property. How would you have felt if that was your truck at 4:10?
I'd like to call out a helpful reminder from the comments (BillyPilgrim70):
"[...] a Big empty field is the best place to practice. Football fields, baseball fields, farmland. You have almost no room in front of your house. Be careful flying over houses too. [...]"
