Tatra Trams for the Eastern Bloc
The first Tatra tram was presented in Prague in 1951. It was modeled after the American PCC articulated trams. By the end of the 1990s, 21 variants had been produced at the Tatra factory in Prague. Over 20,000 vehicles were put into service. Customers included many Eastern Bloc countries and, of course, the former East Germany. Tatras were put into service in almost every city there.
