Context:
This public lecture was recorded on February 16, 1958, 4 months after the USSR launched Sputnik, 2 weeks after the USA launched Explorer, and 11 years before the Apollo 11 moon mission. It was a time of Soviet-US tension and the beginning of the Space Race.
