This video demonstrates the long-press story shortcut and the account menu option. Both are invisible to the other user and keep your feed tidy. This guide explains how to mute people's Instagram stories quickly and easily.
Step-by-step Process (shown in the video)
1. Open Instagram and view the Stories row at the top of your feed.
2. Long-press the story bubble for the account you want to silence.
3. Tap Mute → choose Mute Story (or Mute Story and Posts if you want both).
4. Alternative: open the user’s profile → tap Following (down arrow) → Mute → toggle Stories.
This is how to mute story on Instagram and stop that account’s stories from appearing.
Notes & tips
• Muting is private - the muted account won’t be notified.
• Use the long-press for the fastest action, or the profile menu if you want to mute posts at the same time.
• If you need to mute many accounts, work through the Stories row and long-press each one. This is also how to mute someones IG story when recommendations get noisy.
• To unmute: long-press a muted story (it appears at the end of the row) and choose Unmute.
