Developing LED Photosynthetic, Photomorphogenic, and Photoperiod Lighting Applications for Horticulture Crop Production

Dr. Roberto Lopez, Associate Professor of Horticulture, Purdue University

Horticulture Section Seminar Series
November 3, 2014

High- and low-intensity light-emitting diodes (LEDs) offer numerous possibilities to manipulate growth, development, and morphology of horticulture crops grown in traditional controlled environment greenhouses and indoor production facilities. Our research has determined that anthocyanin production of ornamental foliage and microgreen crops can be increased with end-of-production (prior to shipping) LED supplemental or sole-source lighting. Additionally, I will discuss young and finish plant responses to LED supplemental, sole-source, and photoperiodic lighting of different light qualities.
