US and UK Navies Thwart Major Houthi Attack in Red Sea.
The US and UK navies successfully thwarted the largest Houthi rebel attack on Red Sea shipping, intercepting 21 drones and missiles launched by the Iran-backed group. The Houthis claimed retaliation for the killing of rebels who attempted to attack a container ship last month. UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps stated that there is "no doubt" about Iran's significant involvement in such attacks and hinted at possible Western strikes on Houthi targets. The Houthis have conducted 26 attacks on Red Sea shipping since November 19, falsely claiming to target ships linked to Tel Aviv. The US military revealed that carrier-based jets and warships shot down the drones and missiles launched from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen. The international coalition, including the UK, US, and other nations, issued a joint statement warning of consequences if the attacks persist. The Houthis vowed to continue preventing Israeli ships in the Red and Arabian Seas until the Gaza aggression ends. The conflict between the Houthis and the internationally recognized Yemeni government, supported by a Saudi-led coalition, has resulted in a devastating humanitarian crisis.
