OLD School Paper Bag Book Covers (& Recycling into New Art Supplies) |
In the '70's, we had to cover our schoolbooks to keep them protected. We all used paper bags – they were free, easy to work with, and you could draw on them! In this video, I show you how to make these book covers & how to use paper bags to create NEW art supplies!
When I was a kid, in the 70's, other kids always asked me to draw on their book covers. The Rolling Stones tongue, Van Halen and AC/DC logos, and my original "weird" cartoons. It became such a demand, that if kids wanted me to draw on their book, my price was their dessert at lunch! Cookies and brownies, oh my!
As an adult, I still cover my rare and favorite books, which I enjoy lending to family, friends, and co-workers. I learned many years ago, after a colleague borrowed a rare, out-of-print book from me and got coffee rings and spills on the cover, ruining the value of the book, to keep my books protected from such accidents.
Recycling is great, but the more we can keep out of the environment, the better. So, using paper bags as book covers, and also to make new art supplies, is a great way to keep the recycling local and in the home or classroom, which is both fun and good for the environment.
