The hobby of stacking silver and gold coins bars and rounds has changed drastically in a few short years. What was once a laid back hobby to financially preserve and grow wealth has grown into a fun financial challenge. Spot prices have risen aggressively resulting in a bit of an affordability crisis. Silver is not 20 dollars a troy ounce anymore and gold spot price is no longer below the $2000 price level. As a result full troy ounce gold coins have lost a lot of market share. 5000 bucks for a single coin is very hard to come by for stackers here in 2026. Fractional gold used to be looked down upon. 1/10th tenth ounce and quarter 1/4th ounce coins were viewed as a rip off by many due to the higher premiums attached to them. But now with how expensive precious metals are, fractional gold coins and bars are the only option many stackers have. So have 1 ounce gold coins become obsolete? Let's talk about it!
