The Waters Edge is a project designed to test the Real-time Ray Tracing capabilities of Unreal Engine 4.25

During the process there were defiantly a number of ‘Wow’ moments, particularly when I rendered out the first few animations in a matter of minutes.

Over the course of a weekend (around 30hrs max) I was able to render a total of 6000 frames at a resolution of 2880 x 1660 on a single Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti, this also included re-rendering a few of the sequences that needed adjusting.

To put this in context, using traditional methods, allowing for a conservative estimate of 5 Minutes (average) per frame this would have taken 20 days to render.

REALTIME RAYTRACING = 30hrs (with re-renders)
TRADITIONAL METHOD = 500hrs (no re-renders)

When put in context it’s easy to see how powerful this technology is, with the release of Unreal 5 and the next gen of Nvidia graphics cards things will only get more powerful.
