The Aswan Obelisk... The triumph and fiasco of Ancient Egypt. Had the ancient masters succeeded in their plan, this monument would have towered somewhere in Thebes, 10 meters taller than the largest Egyptian obelisks, and would likely have become the Eighth Wonder of the Ancient World. But it was destined to remain forever in the quarry, a silent reproach to the royal lovers of "very large phallic symbols."
How was this colossus carved from granite? How were they going to transport and install it? Why was the project ultimately abandoned? What myths surround this enormous megalith? What questions remain unanswered by alternative historians?
